Bait Al-Mulla - بيت الملا
Introducing Bait Al-Mulla, Situated in Doha.
Once again, in pursuit of designing the ideal villa, I am trying to reconstruct a House which is situiable to our region, fits to our tradition and our climate and most importantly house which is alive.
We believe that the arcade is the most beautiful transitional space. The courtyard at its core serves as a center of intimacy. It is an opportunity to rethink the relationship between the building and the ground.
Running along the east side is an arcade that stretches the length of the facade. This protected promenade provides an axial open-air corridor, serving as a gateway for the residents. Most importantly, it transitions into the central courtyard, which is covered by a mesh ceiling that softens the light and enhances natural ventilation. The central courtyard is proportioned in a square and two-thirds ratio. Behind the courtyard arcade lies an open family living room, centered around vertical circulation and concealed behind the kitchen and service areas. On the north side a spacious living room with views of the outdoor pool and the central, protected courtyard.
The two-story house is designed to be elevated on arcades, with four masses occupying the corners of a 9-square grid. These masses resemble four towers, protecting a central haven or courtyard. The four two-story towers open inward, toward an interstitial space aligned with the center of the 9-square grid. This space is intended as a small open area, functioning as a lifted garden or playground. For improved ventilation, the lower areas between the two towers contains small openings that help draw air through, providing good ventilation to the courtyard that follows. Minimal openings to the exterior provide protection from the climate, while also allowing controlled light and cross-ventilation.
The four two-story towers offer flexible options for future planning to accommodate changes. Each section can be converted into a spacious studio, a two-bedroom unit with a living space and separate amenities, or a master bedroom with additional bedrooms for children. The goal is to support an extended, multi-generational family across three generations, while maintaining privacy for each section.
